What to Expect at Your First Waxing Appointment

If you have never had a professional waxing before, here is how your appointment at Toronto Wax will go.

Arrival & Consultation

Arrive a few minutes early with clean, dry skin and comfortable clothing. Your esthetician will confirm the services you have selected, answer any questions, and discuss any skin sensitivities, allergies, or medications. You can let them know about any preferences or concerns.

During Treatment

You will be taken to a private treatment room. The esthetician cleans the area, then applies professional wax in small sections using a disposable applicator, and removes it quickly. Each applicator is used once and discarded no double-dipping. The process is efficient. A full leg wax typically takes 30-45 minutes. Brazilian waxing takes approximately 25 minutes. Facial areas like brows or lip take 10-15 minutes.

Comfort

The first appointment is typically the most noticeable because the hair root is at its strongest. With regular sessions every 4-6 weeks, most clients find the experience significantly more comfortable as regrowth becomes finer and sparser. If you are concerned about sensitivity, avoid caffeine for a few hours before your appointment.

After Your Appointment

Your esthetician will provide aftercare guidance. Expect some redness that typically fades within a few hours. For complete aftercare instructions including DO's and DON'Ts, see our appointment information page.

Women's Waxing FAQ

How long should my hair be before a waxing appointment?

Hair should be approximately 6 mm (one-quarter inch) long about the length of a grain of rice. This typically means 2-3 weeks of growth after your last shave. If hair is longer, it can be trimmed before your appointment.

Can I get waxed during my period?

Yes. Wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup and let your esthetician know. The skin may be more sensitive at this time. If you prefer to reschedule, please provide 24 hours' notice.

Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker?

No. Waxing removes hair from the root, which leads to finer, sparser regrowth over time with regular sessions. This is one of the key benefits over shaving, which blunts the hair tip and can make regrowth feel coarser.

How often should I book waxing appointments?

Every 4-6 weeks for most body areas. Facial areas like brows and upper lip may need appointments every 2-4 weeks. Consistent scheduling produces the best, longest-lasting results.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

Gently exfoliate 2-3 times per week starting 48 hours after your appointment. Keep skin moisturized with a light, fragrance-free product. Avoid tight clothing that rubs against the skin for 24-48 hours.

Can I use retinoids or other prescription skin products?

If you use prescription topical medications including retinoids, Retin-A, Accutane, or other skin-thinning products, please inform Toronto Wax before booking. Waxing may not be suitable for certain medication users. A consultation can help determine the safest approach.
